From shoes to projects or just nail polish!

OPI Day at the Peach dupe?

Good morning everyone! I have a franken polish I’d like to share with you all. Most nail polish collectors are probably aware of the Summer for Shore 2003 collection by OPI. The entire collection itself is hard to find and I for one believe I will never ever own a single bottle from that collection. However by chance, I happened to franken a holographic peach polish with a pigment and another polish I already own. It’s quite comparable to Day at the Peach with a weaker linear hologram. Since I don’t have a swatch of DatP, I’ve no way to compare but there are plenty of swatches out there so check it out sometime. On to the pictures.

Isn’t it beautiful? Again, I could use a new camera with better macro settings. Great day for a new mani since I am heading for the beach in a few hours. Let me know what you think of this little franken! Until next time then, thanks for reading and have a great day!

Hair Detox and Mani of the day

Good morning everyone. So for those who have been up to date with this blog, I have ended my garlic experiment but last night, I took up a new one. Many people are going no ‘poo, meaning they’ve stopped using shampoos and conditioners that do nothing for your hair except strip it of its natural oils, resulting in the overproduction of oils, thus creating greasy hair. Two summers ago, I heard stories and result of washing hair with only water. After 2 weeks, my hair was greasy and unmanageable especially on my crown. It was so gross I had to wash my hair with shampoo. Two years have pass then and I’ve read good results about vinegar. Yes, vinegar, the stuff you eat in salad dressings, the stuff used in laundry and cleaning and other miscellaneous everyday jobs. This stuff cuts through grease like nothing and dissolves hard water stains. Yes, I use this for house cleaning. It works.

So last night I decided to use some in my hair since it had been a few days since I washed my hair. I use Head and Shoulders, and no, I don’t have dandruff. I use it because I’m quite allergic to other shampoos I’ve tried and this was the only 1 that worked for me. I already had some vinegar in a spray bottle so I lathered up, spritzed it on, let it sit for a good minute or 2 and washed it out. I felt “oily” to the touch and I was afraid that the smell wouldn’t go away so I stayed in the bathroom until my hair was dry enough to touch. I couldn’t believe the results. My hair was soft and shiny. It was tangle-free. I wanted to see if the results would hold up for a week. Morning comes and it feels like there is very little oil build-up on my crown. Lots of others bloggers have said they have more “bounce” and natural volume to their hair and that they don’t need to style it anymore. I want to reach that point and hopefully my hair will like this as much as I do. I will keep this up for the next few months, and will update you weekly.

Now as for the manicure of the day, ta-da!

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Isn’t it gorgeous? I used 2 coats of Zoya Trixie for the base, 2 coats of Sally Hansen Diamond and 1 coat of Essie Set in Stones. It’s a lot prettier in life. My camera never wants to pick up the rainbow colors it sees. It can’t handle it. I love the result. Plus it’s my birthday today. Great day for a new manicure! I hope you enjoyed today’s post! Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!

End of Garlic Experiment Day 25 and Frankened polish of the day

Good morning everyone. Today is day 25 of my garlic experiment and I’ve decided to call it quits. I believe I have enough data to conclude my findings and to end this (almost) month long scientific experiment. (Or maybe I just miss polishing my nails.) Plus, my index nails broke and the different lengths have been annoying me for the longest time now. And they seem to interfere when I work out. This doesn’t mean I will stop using garlic. I will just stop being meticulous about recording data on a daily basis. However, I hope you found my experiment helpful in some way. Onto the graphs. I did notice my labeling was off on some of the graphs so I changed it. SO tried to correct me and even offered to help set things up on Excel but I was stubborn and wanted to learn on my own. So drum roll please!!!

To conclude, garlic promotes nail growth and strengthens them over a long period of time. As you can see from graphs 1-4, there are many plateaus where I assume the cells “rest” and there is no growth. You must also factor in cuticle growth. There were some days when I pushed my cuticles back and some days I didn’t. If you don’t push your cuticles back, expect to see some depressions in your graphs and/or decreases in your measurements. To get accurate measurements, I suggest you push back the cuticles prior to measuring. I also noticed that if you have bigger nail beds, they will grow faster. My LP is smaller than my RP, so in the graphs 5-6, you can tell that my LP had the slowest growth due to a smaller surface area. A lot of factors may come in play but this is only my guess. I’ve not done any scientific research to this yet but I am sure there are lots of papers out there about nail growth.

I won’t show you any data as it’s just charts full of numbers and who would want to see that. Let’s move on to the next subject. I’ve recently had a lemming for ChG LOL, a yummy purple holographic polish from the OMG Collection. If you haven’t seen the collection yet, visit Scrangie for the swatches. They are TDF! I don’t know why I didn’t get them when they first came out but no regrets because I frankened my own purple holo-y goodness! Three to be exact.

ImageImage

This is 1 coat under 2 coats of a purple franken polish. I wish the middle one was more pigmented with holographic particles but my ratio is off. I will try again another day but for now, I am satisfied. If you can’t tell from my photos, I really need a camera that can actually use macro settings. It was so hard for the lens to pick up on the holographics and the sun didn’t help either. Thanks for taking the time to read today’s long post. Be safe and have a lovely day!

Sally Hansen Prisms Sighting!!!

Good evening everyone! So I wanted to share with everyone my finds for today. I’m sure the majority of you have heard of Grocery Outlet and there are 2 near me that both have… wait for it… Sally Hansen Prisms! They come in a 5-pack for $6 plus tax. They only had Diamond, Blush diamond (in 2 versions), South Sea Pearl and Fire Opal. These are vintage so they are not 3-free. So check it out if you have one around you. It may vary from store to store location.

On to the bad news. So my left index nail broke but I am still amazed by it. It has since been flaking as I bent one of the corners inward but I think the garlic helped it stay strong. It wasn’t until I used it as a tool to rip some stickers off. So now I’m stuck with both my index fingers short but it won’t affect my experiment.

If you have time, check out this blog. She’s also doing a garlic experiment on her nails and I can’t wait to compare my results with hers! Thanks for taking the time to read my post and have a wonderful evening!

Garlic Experiment Day 22 Update

Good afternoon everyone! So it is day 22 of my garlic experiment. Just going to show a few photos then move on to something else.

Day 22 Test

Control (My RI broke on day 19 so I was planning on stopping the experiment but I figured it would be a waste of time so I measured my RI and any difference in growth it has, I will add it to its original measurement.)

So if many of you know, HSN was having a clearance sale on Deborah Lippmann polishes from the Footloose collection. Luckily once I heard the news, I rushed on over there to get me some. I never tried DL polishes before but I’m excited. It was 2 for $10! (Not including shipping and taxes. Shipping was half off for any additional items. Sccoooorrre!) I bought 4 bottles and paid around $27 plus change.

From L to R: Footloose, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It for the Boy and Dancing in the Sheets

I haven’t tried them yet as I am still on my garlic experiment. When I’m finally done with it, I will get swatches going. So if you haven’t got yourselves some DL goodies yet, I suggest you head on over there and check it out. HSN already sold out on the the blues a few days ago. Link? Okay, here it is. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful evening!

Garlic on Nail Experiment Update

Hi everyone. It is week 3 of the garlic experiment. I must say I am impressed. Not only is the test group doing much better than the control, strength also has improved but not at an acrylic level. I expect improvement over a long period of garlic use. Anyway, I’m running short for time as of the moment so I will leave some data I’ve collected.

I also found that when any type of polish is applied to the nails, it inhibits growth. I started to wear my DIY garlic strengthening polish more often but stopped because I noticed my nails stopped growing after a few days. Maybe it depends on the body chemistry and/or genes. Well, thanks for taking the time to stop by! Have a great evening!

Garlic Experiment Update

Hi everyone. So it has been 16 days since I started this little experiment. Here are some data that I’ve collected. I will not be showing any nail photos today.

These 2 graphs show everyday measurements.

I’ve been having a lot of problems with my right index finger as it keeps flaking and today it broke on the nail line left side. I don’t know whether to keep going with this experiment and state my findings or to keep going for the remaining month. I can clearly state that if I stop right now, I won’t have any conclusive evidence. I believe that the use of garlic on nails gives a temporary effect of stronger nails therefore garlic has to be used religiously to keep nails hard but I have no way of measuring this without a force gauge and more time. I can conclude that garlic use makes minimal difference in nail growth with evidence in graphs 3 and 4.

So I hope this experiment helps a bit. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful evening!

Update on garlic experiment

Good afternoon all! Today’s I’ve nothing much to share with you. Just a quick update on the DIY GP. So I left it on overnight. It took a full 24 hours for the smell to finally dissipate. I already took it off and applied my fresh garlic but I took photos (not that it’ll help anyways) for reference. I will update on my garlic experiment as well.

Update on DIY Garlic polish

Hi all. I just wanted to drop a note about the garlic polish I made. The smell took about 6 hours to drop to a tolerable level. If I put my nails to my nose, I can smell it but it’s not as bad as when I first used it. I really can’t describe this smell to you. It will depend on brands due to different ingredients. If you do this, keep yourself busy and the smell will be as if it’s not even there! I hope you try it and drop me a note about your opinion! Thanks for reading and good night!

DIY Strengthening nail polish

What you’ll need: clove or 2 of garlic and clear nail polish.

I minced the garlic and placed it inside my polish. I used Revlon Top Coat since I hardly use it. The garlic has been sitting there for at least a few weeks now.

Nothing wrong with application or drying time but it sure as heck STINKS! Since I washed off my earlier application of fresh garlic juice, I will apply this to my left nails in my experiment as well. Holy moly it stinks though if it’s close enough to your face.

I wonder if this can substitute every day application of fresh garlic? Curiouser and curiouser…
