Deborah Lippman Let’s Hear It For the Boy Swatch

Today I have a swatch for you. Introducing Deborah Lippmann Let’s Hear It For the Boy! This is a baby blue creme polish. If you recall, I purchased this on clearance from HSN. I was most interested in this color out of the four polishes but once I put it on, I was already bored with it within a few hours. Now believe me, I’m a huge fan of light polishes especially polishes that make nails clean and chic like white varnish.

Don’t get me wrong. This is as baby as blue gets and it’s pretty but I’m disappointed on how it turned out for me. What do you think? Have you picked a polish from the DL Footloose Collection yet?

Day 13 Hair Detox and Roc Pore Minimizing Cream Cleanser Review

So my hair is looking fly as it could possibly be! I went running last night and boy it sure was windy! It surprised me to see other girls running around the same time as me in my neighborhood but it makes me feel safer. Anyway, I took a hot shower to get the oils and waxiness out of my hair, then a cold one to close the cuticles and my pores. The feeling was great. I slept in my hair partially wet and this morning, poof! Lovely bed hair. Amazingly, it doesn’t feel greasy. Just a bit waxy on my crown as usual. No BS for today. Ever since I started this detox, my scalp doesn’t itch anymore. Two thumbs up!

I’m even considering on skipping out vinegar and just washing my hair with water whenever I need a washing. When I used vinegar, there was always a small trace of it left. I could smell it whenever I worked out. Nowadays I don’t even reach for that spray bottle. Oh how time flies! Nearly 2 weeks have gone by, and I haven’t yet been eager to ditch this detox like 2 years ago. I’m very glad I tried it out. My next try would be aspirin and honey mask. When I get the supplies, I’ll write a review.

Onto Roc! I’ve never tried any products from Roc before so this was a first. Easy squeeze bottle. Ah-mah-zing! The smell was nice, not floral or heavily perfumed. It reminds me of lemon grass and herbs not in a bad way. That’s really all the pros. Onto the cons. While the first few days of use gave me baby soft skin, the effect really stopped working after the first week. Nothing had changed. Plus, I did a little research on alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) and they don’t work in cleansers because they get washed away. They need to be in moisturizer form in order to work. The cleanser wasn’t creamy. It was fluid-like and watery where I just popped the top and it would easily drip. I paid around $6 for this I think. It isn’t worth the money I spent. It has exfoliating micro-spheres that give it a nice feeling when washing but I had a lot of dead skin left on my face. However, all skin types are different. You win some, you lose some. So far, I have been losing a lot of money on facial soaps. I haven’t found my HG yet but when I do, I will be so happy! I rate this 1 out of 5 stars.

Day 8 Hair Detox; Blog Sale?

Well, my hair is manageable and waxy to the touch. Nothing a little BS won’t help. Dust it on and brush it out. I can’t believe it has been a little over a week since I started. My hair wasn’t this cooperative since the last time I went no ‘poo. The most waxy part of my head is my bangs and my crown. Because I have thin hair, I have more hair follicles which equals to more sebum produced. And that equates to waxiness.

Moving on to other things: blog sale. Should I have one? I am looking to destash my nail polish collection but so far I only have OPI Fly, OPI Did It On ’em, OPI Barefoot in Barcelona, OPI Lincoln Park After Dark, Deborah Lippmann Almost Paradise, Sally Hansen Blush Diamond(x2), SH Fire Opal(x2) and SH Diamond. If you are interested in taking something off my hands, feel free to email me and we can work things out. They are all new and unused.

Now off to the beach I go! (Well, in 3 hours that is…) Thanks for reading!

Did Ya Hear?! Today’s news #1.

I recently received an email from Zoya letting its buyers know that they are having a 3 for 1 special! Pick any three polishes from the Beach and Surf Summer 2012 Collection and pay only $15 with free shipping! Zoya polishes normally go for 8 a pop. That’s like buy 2 get 1 free! Did you jump on the deal yet? I totally would but I already bought Zoya Zuzu and Wednesday when they first came out on Bloom.com in one of my previous posts. I’m not really interested in buying more until I wear those ones first. Deal lasts until June 25th. (This offer is listed as a “Share the Love” bonus.) So what are you waiting for? Getting moving!

Today’s Rant: Beware Shipping charges on Ebay

As many of you know, Ebay is a great place to find lemmings, HTF and VHTF polishes that are discontinued. Well, today as I was browsing away, I am quite appalled by the shipping charges that some sellers include in their listings. For example, one lists $7.95 for priority mail. USPS requires that all nail polishes be sent via parcel post only (due to risk of flammable liquids), which is first class and parcel with a label that reads “Consumer Commodity” and “ORM-D” marked in a square. The only difference is first class has a weight restriction of 13oz.

Now for 11oz (which is approximately 3-5 bottles depending on the brand), the first rate cost is $2.99 (online via Paypal) with free delivery confirmation. If shipped priority small flat rate, that is $4.90 and $6.20 for plain priority. Now some sellers include fees for bubble wrap, labels, supplies, gas going to the post office but that’s a whole ‘nother story. (USPS has carrier pick-up for certain locations!) For one bottle of polish, how could a seller possibly charge $7.95 for shipping? Tsk tsk. At most, that bubbled envelope (7 x 9) could only weight about half an ounce. You could buy a 10-pack of bubbled envelopes for $2-$3. Ahem, moving on…

Now I understand that some sellers also include insurance in case glass bottles break, but in my opinion, I believe any insurance bought for priority will be void with polish purchases. Why? USPS doesn’t allow flammable fluids in the air. When they investigate, they will see exploded polish and glass everywhere in the box and say the rules weren’t followed so they will not acknowledge the insurance claim. They regulate it for a reason. So who should lose in the end? The Ebay sellers.

So next time you see a polish on the bay that you want, ask the seller if s/he’ll ship first class instead of priority or parcel (if it meets the restriction). It’ll save you the fees and keep you both out of trouble with USPS. And try to ask in the nicest way possible so you won’t lose your chances to snatching up that lemming! In the end, pay for what you are willing to pay. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful afternoon!

Baking soda as dry shampoo? Day 5

As you may know that I went no ‘poo. Yesterday I wanted to do a vinegar wash but I was just too lazy. My crown and the back of my head felt greasy but nothing that made my day bad. So I undid my braid (and it had a wonderful sweet scent to it), dusted on some backing soda, and massaged it into my scalp. I let it sit for a while then took my trusty boar hair brush and combed out as much as I could. The process was long which is why I didn’t state in the title “quick”, but hey, it beats the time it takes to wash hair with CO plus drying time.

BS was collected on my brush and it was gray with plenty of dust. I combed as much as I could into the sink. I felt like I was cleaning soap scum from a tub. It took me about 15 minutes, combing everything out until I was tired. The results? It yielded some nice results. I had volume but my hair was quite dry, not crispy or like straw. Nothing a little moroccan oil couldn’t fix. My crown was soft and everything was manageable. I like what I saw. So should you try it next time you wake up late for work or school? I say, give it a go. It might surprise you.

Hair Detox Day 4 and Nail Mail

Good morning. So I received a package last night from a blog sale. Everyone raved about this polish and how it’s HTF. I haven’t swatched it yet.Introducing from the OPI 2001 World Collection. It is not B3F.

It’s quite spectacular if I may say. Sort of like a metallic purple beetle. Many reviews said that the multichrome doesn’t really show up on the nails, only at certain specific angles. I will see when I actually try for the first time.

Onto my update on the hair detox. My hair is manageable but stringy and greasy. I washed with water last night after I worked out, then combed it forever with a boar brush. Then braided it and slept like that. It holds quite well like gel but I won’t wear it down. It feels too nasty. I should’ve taken photos but I lent it to a friend. I should get it back later this week. Well that’s all for now. I’m running short for time. Until next time then! Ciao!

Recycling old colored NP bottles

Hi all. Do you have one or more colored bottles of empty nail polish bottles just lying around, like for example this one by Sally Hansen?

Image (photo courtesy of instyle.com)

I have a tendency to recycle everything and I mean everything. I reuse any empty nail polish bottles, shampoo pumps become dish washing soap dispensers, used boxes and bubble wrap are all collected, etc.I have SH Miracle Nail Thickener that I haven’t used to decant or franken polish with since it’s painted. I tried once removing the paint with pure acetone but it wouldn’t budge. So last night, I started scratching the paint off with my fingernail. Yes, bad move so I stopped but I had on hand an old emery board file and used that to scratch off the paint. You wouldn’t believe the results. It was truly amazing. It scratched right off. Please be careful of the dust and if you do this, be in a well ventilated area. Wear gloves too. It does get messy.

Cool huh? Now you have a reason to reuse that colored bottle! Expect to see minor scratches on the glass though they are not too obvious. Yes, I shouldn’t have decanted purple polish into a purple bottle. But it works. Try it out sometime. You are saving Earth from trash! Thanks for reading!

OPI Day at the Peach dupe?

Good morning everyone! I have a franken polish I’d like to share with you all. Most nail polish collectors are probably aware of the Summer for Shore 2003 collection by OPI. The entire collection itself is hard to find and I for one believe I will never ever own a single bottle from that collection. However by chance, I happened to franken a holographic peach polish with a pigment and another polish I already own. It’s quite comparable to Day at the Peach with a weaker linear hologram. Since I don’t have a swatch of DatP, I’ve no way to compare but there are plenty of swatches out there so check it out sometime. On to the pictures.

Isn’t it beautiful? Again, I could use a new camera with better macro settings. Great day for a new mani since I am heading for the beach in a few hours. Let me know what you think of this little franken! Until next time then, thanks for reading and have a great day!
